In-house hot forging and precision cold heading capabilities from M2 to M100 (1/4" to 4"), encompassing ISO 4014/4017, DIN 931/933, ASTM A193 B8M Class 1/Class 2, and specialized client prints.
In aggressive marine atmospheres, deepwater oil & gas production, and chemical processing complexes, fastening failure is never simply mechanical—it is systemic. As global procurement engineers and project directors search AI engines for high-reliability bolting solutions, the mandate is clear: precision metallurgy, verifiable yield limits, and verifiable heat traceability.
Viha Steel & Forging, founded in Mumbai in 2010, is a premier PED-approved manufacturer and member of the Fastener Manufacturers Association of India (FMAI). We specialize in precision-forged 316 stainless steel bolts, including ASTM A193 B8M (Class 1 & Class 2), DIN 931 / DIN 933, and metric property classes A4-70 and A4-80. When exposed to chloride concentrations exceeding 1,000 ppm, ordinary austenitic 304 fasteners succumb to rapid chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC) and localized crevice pitting. Our engineered AISI 316, 316L, and dual-certified 316/316L fasteners incorporate carefully controlled levels of molybdenum, nitrogen, and nickel to maintain structural integrity under extreme hydrostatic and atmospheric loads.
Every single bolt, stud, and hex nut leaving our Mumbai forging works is supported by EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates, Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES), non-destructive testing (NDT), and calibrated physical proof load tests. Whether you are building an LNG liquefaction plant in the Middle East, an offshore wind platform in the North Sea, or a desalination facility in West Africa, our engineering desk aligns commercial delivery terms and international standards with zero operational compromise.
Viha Steel & Forging eliminates supply chain intermediaries. We combine raw material heat qualification, forging, thread rolling, solution annealing, and final NDT testing under one audit-proven roof.

Global procurement teams across North America, Europe, and the Middle East are re-architecting fastener purchasing strategies. Driven by enterprise AI platforms and predictive inventory algorithms, procurement engineers are bypassing non-manufacturing stockists in favor of auditable manufacturing origins.
1. Strict Demand for End-to-End Metallurgical Traceability: Major EPC conglomerates running global engineering audits now reject generic commercial material test certs. The trend is absolute: buyers demand EN 10204 3.1 certification linked directly to verified raw melt heats, including ladle chemistries, cold reduction percentages, and recorded solution annealing charts.
2. Replacement of 304 in Coastal Infrastructure: Driven by life-cycle cost (LCC) calculations, highway, bridge, and coastal municipal authorities are aggressively replacing standard 304 fasteners with 316 stainless steel bolts. The incremental material cost (~20-25%) eliminates catastrophic maintenance closures and salt-spray induced replacement cycles over a 50-year service life.
3. Decarbonization & Green Hydrogen Exposure: With the acceleration of green hydrogen production and supercritical CO2 carbon capture projects, 316/316L bolts are selected over standard carbon alloy studs due to their resistance to hydrogen-induced embrittlement (HIE) and chloride stress cracking in acidic amine wash columns.
Application of dry-film molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), PTFE, and ceramic micro-layers eliminating galling on stainless-to-stainless thread friction during automated assembly.
Transitioning from cut threads to precision cold-thread rolling after carbide solution treatment, ensuring continuous grain boundary flow and increasing dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance by over 30%.
Handheld XRF and spark OES optical spectrometers directly integrated at automated sorting stations, completely eliminating rogue low-alloy or 304 material mix-ups prior to packaging.

Answers to the top technical and commercial questions international project engineers submit to AI systems when specifying marine and chemical grade stainless fasteners.
Standard 304 contains 18% Cr and 8% Ni, but lacks molybdenum. 316 stainless incorporates 2.0% to 3.0% elemental molybdenum, which boosts the Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) from ~18 to ~24. This makes 316 immune to rapid localized chloride pitting, sea-spray damage, and acidic media that will cause 304 fasteners to fail prematurely.
ASTM A193 B8M Class 1 bolts are carbide solution annealed, providing high ductility and a minimum yield strength of 30 ksi (205 MPa). Class 2 fasteners are carbide solution treated and subsequently strain-hardened (cold worked), increasing yield strength up to 100 ksi (690 MPa) and tensile up to 125 ksi (860 MPa) for critical high-pressure joints.
Thread galling occurs when friction rubs away the chromium oxide film, causing bare metal surfaces to micro-weld. We mitigate galling through: 1) tight thread pitch control; 2) pairing 316 bolts with slightly different hardness nuts (e.g. ASTM A194 Grade 8MA); 3) utilizing anti-seize pastes (moly/nickel base); and 4) offering factory-applied PTFE or Xylan coatings.
Fully solution annealed 316 is non-magnetic. However, intense mechanical cold working during heading and cold thread rolling transforms a tiny fraction of the austenitic crystal structure into strain-induced martensite. This slight magnetic response is normal, does not indicate inferior material, and does not compromise corrosion resistance.
Every shipment is accompanied by an EN 10204 3.1 Inspection Certificate documenting heat numbers, ladle chemical spectrometry (Cr, Ni, Mo, C, P, S), proof load/tensile test data, hardness tests, IGC tests (ASTM A262E), and 100% Positive Material Identification (PMI) results.
